How comfortable would you be with opening your heart up to strangers about painful events in your life? Ira Wagler grew up in the Amish community, departed it, and tells his story of how he basically started from scratch, and dealt with his family’s reaction, afterward.
Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
In Broken Roads, Wagler’s voice is welcoming, open, and honest. It is obvious in the that he loves his family; they simply have their differences. Wagler shows how working and going to school as a college student was such a liberating, refreshing experience, one that he would not have had, had he stayed in the Amish community. Broken Roads is a recommended book for anyone interested in learning more about the Amish lifestyle as well as how it contrasts with “the English”.
