Book Review: Simplify
by Bill Hybels
Ever feel like life’s spinning out of control? Is there too much on your plate, and you can’t get it all under control?
Bill Hybels, pastor of Willow Creek Community Church, has been there. He shares a story of how he reached his breaking point, became incredibly ashamed, and knew that something had to change. His book, Simplify: Ten Practices to Unclutter Your Soul, is based not on uncluttering your possessions but on uncluttering the mental and spiritual space to find peace and joy.
There’s an incredible amount of relevant, truthful information in this book. Bill makes some very rare, very salient observations on friendships, work, the difference in “seasons of life”, and the meaning of having a “life verse”. Each chapter is just as good as the last. While not every one of Hybels’ recommendations for change can be implemented, on the whole, Simplify is an excellent guide for the person looking for the most peaceful, joyful life possible.
